iFeast
If you agree that one of the trickiest parts of hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner is keeping your sanity while making sure that everything is ready at the same time, then iFeast is for you.

While there are a range of apps that feature recipes, support party planning, and even create shopping lists, iFeast is the only one that allows you to keep track of your day — and preserve your sanity — by providing pre-programmed but fully customizable minute-by-minute prep and cook timings and instructions — with alerts — for preparing the perfect Holiday Feast.

Features include:

  • Prep and cook times and instructions for every aspect of the meal – not only recipes, but also tasks such as setting the table and chilling the wine
  • Notifications to alert you when each task begins and ends, even when the app is closed!
  • Four pre-programmed menus: Novice, All at Once, Early Bird and Night Owl – choose these and amend as desired or create your own from scratch
  • Shopping lists created from any of your pre-programmed or saved menus
  • Over 20 classic Thanksgiving and Christmas recipes – use simply as a guide for timings or to create your own Feast
  • The ability to select the time you plan to eat – iFeast will alter all times accordingly

This is the first release of iFeast, and I welcome any suggestions you may have about ways to improve it – we’re working on completely redeveloping the app for 2010, which will be OS 4.0 compatible. Look out for it in October!

Questions about iFeast: Thanksgiving?

A good way to begin is to go to the menu section to view and amend recipes.
Once you’ve decided on a menu, view and amend the timings in the schedule section.

A few tips:
– Add a new menu item by clicking on ‘edit’ in the menu section and clicking ‘new menu element’ –
– You will then enter the recipe detail page. From here you can select a category, and then click on the recipe to choose one from the list, or to add your own.
– If you choose to add your own recipe, you will be asked to enter the name of the recipe, which will add it to the database.
– Once it is in the database, you can then add it to your menu by using the ‘add menu element’ function.’
– Turn on/off push notifications for the app by selecting ‘edit’ on the first screen in ‘schedules’, ‘menus’, or ‘lists’ and clicking on the feast name. This is also where you can save the feast under a different name.

iFeast FAQs

How do I turn notifications on or off?

Simply turn off/on your alerts for your particular feasts by selecting ‘edit’ on the first screen in ‘schedules’, ‘menus’, or ‘lists’ and clicking on the feast name. This is also where you can save the feast under a different name.

Can I use my own feast, and ignore yours?

Yes, you can add in all your own recipes, if you’d like.  After selecting a category, click on the recipe button, and the link to add a new recipe will be below the pre-populated recipes. For each new recipe, you can add the name, prep and cook time, and notes. If you’d like to add the ingredients to your shopping list, you’ll need to do that manually. You can then set the time and date of your feast.

Is iFeast just for the Holidays?

This first version of iFeast has been developed for the Holiday season. Let us know if you’d like us to develop one for a particular holiday or event. Since the app is so customizable, you could – with a little work — use it for dinner parties or any meal where timings are an issue.

Can you change menus?

Yes, you can! When viewing a menu, click on a recipe to change it, or add a new one using the ‘edit’ button. You can change the menu as much and as often as you’d like, but make sure you ‘save’ it before closing the application.

Does the app offer shopping lists?

Yes, you can create a shopping list from any of your pre-populated or saved menus.  The amount for each item will automatically be generated. Please keep in mind that if you’ve added any of your own personal recipes to your menu, these ingredients won’t be on the list, so you’ll need to add any additional ingredients manually.

How do I add a recipe?

After selecting a recipe category, click on the recipe, and the button to add a new recipe will be below the pre-populated recipes. For each new recipe, you can add the name, prep and cook time, and notes. If you’d like to add the ingredients to your shopping list, you’ll need to do that manually.

Can I change the date and time of my dinner?

Yes, simply by going to settings, and clicking on the date and time. We’ve set the default to 6pm on the 26th November, but you can change the time,  and even the date, and the schedule will automatically change for you.
